ABOUT ME

Since I can remember, I have always loved to write—fiction, non-fiction, and everything in between. Over the past few years, I have also discovered the world of design and technology. I love everything that is innovative, clear, and effective. I am detail-oriented and have a strong eye for visual design. I am also a fast learner and love mastering new technologies. Completing projects with efficiency and purpose is very important to me and fundamental to everything I do. Some of my hobbies include singing, playing the piano, traveling, and writing historical fiction.

PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS

From 2016-2017, I lived in Peru where I taught English, worked one-on-one with Peruvian families, and oversaw various service projects. While there, I discovered a love of connecting with people. I was inspired by Peru’s culture and its strong entrepreneurial spirit. The Peruvian people have a determination to maximize their expertise and turn any skill set into a business. Since moving back from Peru in 2017, I have worked as an interpreter for Aggie Translators at Utah State University. I minored in Spanish and want to connect the two worlds of business and Spanish in my professional pursuits.

Although writing will always be my first love, within the world of technical communication, I have a passion for marketing, branding, and helping small and medium-sized businesses present themselves in a clear and effective way. I believe the way businesses present themselves to their audiences is very important, and with the right brand strategy and expertise, any type of brand presence can be achieved. I am continually fueled by my passion to connect with people, especially those of other cultures. I love understanding the nuances of cross-cultural advertising and strive to keep up with the latest digital marketing strategies through continued coursework and professional development.

PAST AND CURRENT PROJECTS

I am currently the project manager for the new student-run cooperative at Utah State University called, Link, which connects local businesses to technical writing students looking for work experience. Along with leading the project, I help pitch our idea to local businesses, design the cooperative's documents, and manage Link’s website. From this project, I’ve learned about consistency and branding within an organization and have discovered my love for promoting small, start-up businesses.

I also work as a Spanish research assistant on a project to implement VALI (Video- and App-based naturalistic Language Instruction) to enhance the Háblame Bebé (Talk to Me Baby) app to help parents foster language acquisition in bilingual children with language delays. Currently, I translate documents, code data, and interact with Spanish-speaking families. This project has helped me keep in contact with the local Latino community and recognize more service opportunities there.

During the past year and a half, I have designed and written curriculum for Discover 4-H, a branch of Utah 4-H that provides free curriculum for youth activities. From this experience, I have learned how to collaborate with subject matter experts in writing and designing curriculum. In this capacity, I have also interacted with children and youth to help them learn and, more importantly, apply the skills they have learned.

In my free time, I have also written two historical novels. They have been personal projects up until recently, and now I am in the middle of writing my first series. I am in the middle of getting them published. My dream is to one day be travel the world as a novelist and be able to visit and learn from past and current world cultures.
